Song Review : Pon Chantapon x Noey Passawan – รักควรมีสองคน

I don’t really review songs outside of the Pop spectrum, and this is as far from your general T-POP music as it could be. Instead, the song is released by two singers under a Thai folk music company. However, the song recently went viral on TikTok and Youtube, for how the song is delivered. Many people did covers or lip-syncing over the song. I don’t see a reason to not talk about it.

Lyrics play a very important role in Luk-thung or Thai folk music. Vocalists need to be skilled at not only singing but also delivering the message to make the audience enjoy. “รักควรมีสองคน” translates to “Love should only have two people” and in this case, the husband and the wife. The two singers roleplay as a wife and a mistress, and the lyrics go head-to-head with each other like a conversation. The “wife” sings about how the “mistress” should be ashamed of stealing someone’s lover, and that her love should only be between two people. The “mistress” sings about how the “husband” should have been responsible, but instead he declined about being in a relationship, and now she couldn’t stop loving him.

Onto the production, I think it’s pretty much what a Luk-thung ballad in general sounds like, with the piano and the occasional guitar solos. While the vocalists sing with extreme anger that fits the song well. The song just flows nicely without any flaws, while both of them nail all the nice vocal runs. I like the performance here a lot.

To end this, I do not support polygamy relationships that are without consent and I don’t think the singers do either. This song is rather a call-out to such actions happening in the society. I figured out this song would be interesting and different from what we usually hear in T-POP.
